Vetus Sanguis is a project that emerged in the epidemic sewers during 2020, with the dark desire to torture all the creatures of this despicable humanity, which was confined with the imminent fear of death and where a nefarious essence was slowly exterminating this cursed society in a cruel way. After the release of the first demo entitled "Sangue Velho" which gangrened this humanity emanating horrendous odors, now the time has come to announce to you the debut album of Vetus Sanguis entitled "Capítulo I - Dimensão Horrenda" which will transport us with apocalyptic hatred to a reality where the miserable human existence has no meaning, are you prepared to die? The tools for inhuman torture in the underworld of darkness are already prepared, so I had the honor of talking to Perversus, the executioner of Vetus Sanguis, to whom I hand over the knife blade, so that he can degulate me out with the answers in the next interview and where my filthy blood will slowly flow so that you, dirty creatures of the underworld, can drink my poisoned blood with all the hatred exposed here.
LIFE MEANS NOTHING, ONLY DEATH IS REAL!!!
C.N. - Hell-o misanthropic creature Perversus, first of all I want to welcome you to the underworld of darkness where demons read the Cadaveric Noiseletter while they go to shit in the toilets of hell. To start this interview I would like to ask you to introduce yourself and tell us a little more about your project called Vetus Sanguis?
PERVERSUS - Greetings to all infernal creatures! I am Perversus, a perverse creature who has always been from the North of Portugal and always will be! More specifically from a well called Braga. Born in the 80s, a young creature but with a desire to create chaos among the masses. The Vetus Sanguis Project was born around the end of 2020, beginning of 2021 when I finally managed to get my hands on torture tools! At that time I gathered all the noises and made a demon(s) called old blood! And it will continue until the little life I have left in me can maneuver the instruments of torture of the masses!
C.N. - Vetus Sanguis is a project where you are the only member, can you tell us a little more about the reasons that led you to choose to do everything yourself? Do you think that this allows you to have complete freedom to do things your way without having to put up with anyone or is there another reason?
PERVERSUS - The question itself already provides some answers! I'm not very social, I never have been in fact! Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of humans, but from what I know I'm also a human and I'm part of these horrendous creatures. Freedom should be the peak that any creature aspires to and I aspire to freedom 200%, so I prefer to work alone to practice my individuality in its rawest possible state without having creatures to disgust or destabilize me! I'm not an individual who likes to wait and I know from my own experience that we all have a different speed and willingness to work and create hatred. However, I may work with some abysmal creatures, which is happening, but in another project. Vetus Sanguis will continue like this, without good creatures to disgust me.
C.N. - The impure symphonies that you release from the infernal caves and that you present encompass a perverse aura within the Black Metal strands. How do you define the sound of Vetus Sanguis?
PERVERSUS - I am not, by far, a creature who likes to give labels to things. If it sounds like black metal... that's fine... if it doesn't sound like black metal, that's fine. Vetus Sanguis' sound is defined by my inner darkness that is transported into waves of sonic torture. I focus on what I feel at the moment I'm creating without thinking that it has to sound like Black Metal, Death Metal or whatever style... I just let the darkness flow through the torture tools. I leave the labels for "coffee and beer" conversations because nowadays it seems to me that there are judge doctors who judge everything and everyone, yes, within metal... Metal is not about judgment, but about opposition to it! Coming back to the question, I do not define Vetus Sanguis as black metal but rather as a violent, ritualistic and dark form of expression. The rest I leave to the Doctor Judges.
C.N. - In 2022, the first demo by Vetus Sanguis was released by Helldprod Records, entitled "Sangue Velho", where we can be absorbed by five sound rituals. Would you like to tell us a little more about this demo?
PERVERSUS - This demo was the first perfect experience I had with my mass torture tools. Where I simply played and put everything together, without mixing or mastering. Times were very turbulent at that time when our freedom was being taken away from us in a global way... And I'm not good at dealing with limitations and I started to get mentally ill... that's when I relieved all the darkness that was consuming me in the most beautiful way possible. And so the demon demo was born... It was the perfect beginning for me and for the Vetus Sanguis project.
C.N. - It's 2025 and the first album entitled "Capítulo I - Dimensão Horrenda" is about to be released, consisting of ten hymns of the occult arts. Tell us a little more about this new album, which as far as I know is the first chapter of an infernal trilogy that you are preparing. What do you want to reveal to us about it?
PERVERSUS - Yes, the goal is to have 3 chapters, something like pre-mortem, death and post-mortem. The first chapter is the “cleanest” in terms of production because for me, and this is what interests me, it makes perfect sense to be that way… The next chapters will be much more intriguing, cold and raw, without a doubt. You won’t find evolution or devolution, just the true portrait of each chapter, and they will all be very different, in terms of instrumental, mixing and mastering… so there won’t be anything instrumentally that defines the sound of Vetus Sanguis, but rather the Essence… Things will get really weird hahahaha.
C.N. - Anyone who knows the demo, which has a more rotten sound, and listens to the new album now, will come across a more produced sound. Although the essence of Vetus Sanguis remains intact, was the cleaner production of the album intentional or do you consider this as an evolution in the way you made this album?
PERVERSUS - It was 100% intentional, Vetus Sanguis will never be about technical or professional evolution, it will always be about essence… There was no evolution whatsoever from the demo to the album, just the construction of something bigger and a personal goal… This project will never have anyone’s touch other than mine, be it in terms of composition, production or any guest artist. Things here will always sound like Vetus Sanguis and not like other bands.
C.N. - Vetus Sanguis' lyrics are in Portuguese, presenting an occult and insane theme. What made you choose Portuguese to express the message you want to convey?
PERVERSUS - Because I am Portuguese first and foremost, I don't see any problem with the Portuguese language in the music. If English were used, it could have the objective of reaching an audience, which is not part of it... as I said, this project will always have a peculiar essence, without the objective of pleasing X or Y. I'm not really worried about who will listen to this or even if they will like it. However, I won't deny the use of English, but in Vetus Sanguis I won't use it. At least I feel very comfortable expressing myself in Portuguese and I've really liked the result, so I'll continue.
C.N. - Now I would like to ask you what your musical influences are and what led you to do a cover of Discharge to include in this new album?
PERVERSUS - My influences as an attempt to be a musician are Mercyful Fate / King Diamond! Speaking of musical composition, my influence is the darkness that lives inside me... As for the Discharge cover, besides being a band and song that I've listened to since I was very young, it fits perfectly with the theme of the first chapter which is about the destruction of one's own life!
C.N. - Your new album will be released through the co-release between Helldprod Records and Murder Records. How do you evaluate the work that these two entities are doing in promoting and distributing your new album?
PERVERSUS - You've both been doing an incredible job, it's been a pleasure working with you on this release, such incredible professionalism! I hope to repeat the experience we've had these past few weeks! And may it be the first of many releases! You're as disgusting creatures as I am, so things have been going well so far. I hope it continues that way. I initially worked with helldprod on the demo, which was great! Now, together with Murder Records, it's given even more strength to the evil and darkness present in the world! You've been some cool bastards with Vetus Sanguis. Hails!
C.N. - Speaking now about the Underground movement in Portugal, which bands would you like to suggest and that you think deserve to be mentioned in this interview? How do you see the modern Underground nowadays?
PERVERSUS - Yes, I have some that I really like and that I'm listening to at the moment, such as Via Sinistra, Phenocryst, Tvmvlo, Gallows rites, Ventr that came out very recently, Blasphemous Fire, Promiscuous fire by Irae... among others that I can't remember! Excellent works, without a doubt! Some of them need no introduction for obvious reasons. As for the underground movement, underground music is emerging, but the underground audience is not. I don't know if you can call the underground "modern" but I don't think it's alive in Portugal. I won't go into that conversation.
C.N. - I assume that for you playing live is out of the question and that these types of social gatherings are of no importance whatsoever for a project like Vetus Sanguis, or am I wrong?
PERVERSUS - You're right, I have no intention of taking Vetus Sanguis live. There may be other projects where this could happen, but not Vetus Sanguis. This project is quite personal, I have no ambition to take it live. It will remain this way.
C.N. - Before finishing, I would like to ask you what are Vetus Sanguis' goals and plans for the future?
PERVERSUS - As we said initially, the goal will be to release 3 chapters, one of which is about to come out, the second is very soon and the third will soon be released! After that, we'll see if I'm still alive or if I'm already alive!! Hahaha.
C.N. - We have reached the end of this interview and I would like to thank you for the time you wasted answering this damn questionnaire. Now I would like to leave this space open so that you can throw out any insults that you find relevant and that were not addressed in this interview. You can also thank or tell whoever you want to fuck off...
PERVERSUS - Thank you for giving me an opportunity to do something I hate! Ahaha! I just want to thank Helldprod and murder-records for showing interest and helping with the release of the first chapter and those who are going to waste time listening to this cutting sound! The rest, no one cares... Just like your opinion, so Fuck off and die.
