CAMOS is a Brazilian band that was formed in 2000 by Sucoth Benoth, one of the founders of the legendary Amen Corner horde, which needs no introduction to those who know the true essence of Brazilian Black Metal...
CAMOS have just released their latest album, which presents a sound that fits into the traditional Heavy Metal school and where the dark entity of CAMOS has penetrated to incessantly desecrate the origins of Heavy Metal...
Let's stay with the interview that CADAVERIC NOISELETTER prepared with CAMOS to give you a little more insight into the band's journey in the underworld of Black Metal and where they will also address issues related to the new album "Hide From The Light" released by the infamous MURDER RECORDS in CD and CASSETTE format...
C.N. - Hell-o evil demons from the depths of Brazil's musical underworld, I'd like to start this interview by asking how and when Camos came about? Can you introduce yourself and tell us a little more about the band's origins?
S.B. - Hail. Camos was a project conceived in 2001 by Sucoth Benoth, vocalist of the band Amen Corner. At the time I wanted to make a more symphonic Black Metal with keyboards, etc...
C.N. - Now talking about your line-up, over the years there have been many members coming and going in the band. I would like to ask you to present the current line-up of the band and ask if you think that the coming and going of members helped you develop your musical style?
S.B. - Yes, in fact there have been many changes over time and the penultimate line-up that recorded the album Kain 666 is practically the same as the current line-up. It played a fundamental role in the musical evolution of the band. Today the music sounds more Power and Heavy Metal than before, all due to the musical quality of the members.
The change and evolution came naturally and of course we continue with the darker and more satanic theme.
C.N. - You are all veterans of the Brazilian scene. Could you tell us a little more about the side projects you have? Do you manage to find a balance that allows each project to maintain its own identity?
S.B. - Yes, everyone in the band plays in other bands. I am the lead singer of Amen Corner and the rest of the band plays in Thou Shall Not, among other individual projects. This balance is very necessary, especially since our other bands are constantly active in shows, etc.
C.N. - In the early days of Camos, the band's sound was more Black Metal, which has evolved over time. Currently, you have managed to find a perfect balance that encompasses more traditional Heavy Metal and transforms your sound into a more melodic but very dark one. Do you think that your musical influences are a reference in your sound?
S.B. - This change occurred naturally due to the quality of the current members of the band. Each one has a different musical taste, but we also have many things in common when it comes to Metal. Some like Hard Rock more, others like Heavy Metal. I really like Black Metal, but I also don't give up on good Heavy Metal... We fit together perfectly, we are friends and we get along very well. All of this contributes to the musical growth of the band.
C.N. - How do you define your sound? What are the subjects and themes addressed in your lyrics? What message does the band intend to convey with its lyrics and music?
S.B. - I believe that we are like Camos, it is difficult to establish a style. Some say it is this, others say it is that, I think we are close to Heavy Power Metal but with a Black Metal theme. The important thing is that people have really liked the new album. There is no message, there is something that we like to do that fulfills us and pleases us.
C.N. - Your discography includes three demos: "Baal Zebuth Baal Beth Zebuth" demo from 2001, "Lucifer in Aeternus Allelúia" demo from 2006 and "Black Metal Night" demo from 2009, as well as an EP, "Evil Supremacy" released in 2005 and your first album, "Kaim 666" released in 2009. Could you tell us a little more about your discography and the musical evolution the band has undergone over the years?
S.B. - This is the discography that also includes the new Hide from The Light, which was released on CD and cassette by the Dutch label Murder Records and which I consider to be the band's best release. In the beginning, it was more of an experiment involving lots of partying and drinking. We ended up with 6 members in the band. We wanted to do something more symphonic. But the band really evolved after the album Kain 666, with the same line-up as today. Because with high quality musicians who came together for the project and released incredible and unique albums.
C.N. - After 15 years you reappear with your second album entitled "Hide from the Light". Why did you want to talk about it after such a long period of time? Now you are preparing the release of your second album. Could you talk about your new album and what do you think we can expect from this new work by Camos?
S.B. - The delay between Kain 666 and the new Hide from the Light is due to the fact that everyone has their own bands. Camos is more of a musical project. With this big release we now want to put the band in its rightful place with shows, interviews, etc. And later on, record a new album.
C.N. - Your new album is titled "Hide From The Light" and will be released by Murder Records on October 18, 2024. Can you talk a little more about how the opportunity to make this release came about and in what formats it will be released, can you tell us a little more about that?
S.B. - For us it is a great honor to finally show our music to people in other countries through this international release made by Murder Records in CD and K7 formats. I introduced the band to Danihell from Murder Records and the conversations evolved and proudly culminated in this release contract. We are very excited.
C.N. - You have also released a video clip and a lyric video that help us understand a little better what we can expect from Camos' new album. Would you like to talk a little more about the videos you released to promote your album?
S.B. - The video and the clip were sensational. Another lyric video for the song Hopeless has also been released and it was really cool. We are very grateful to everyone involved who helped with these releases.
C.N. - With this interview you will release a new video clip where we can discover your more melodic side, however the lyrics reflect an increasingly imminent reality, do you want to talk a little more about this new video clip entitled "Hopeless"?
S.B. - This video that is already available on YouTube talks about the reality that has been occurring on Earth such as wars, global warming, hunger and diseases. We live in a dark time for humanity, there is also a great difference between social classes and great religious ignorance. We are heading towards a great disaster.
C.N. - Your album will be released in Europe by Murder Records and will be officially distributed by Hellstore Europe, but at the same time it will also be released and distributed in Brazil through Camos, how can Brazilian demons acquire your album there in Brazil if they are interested?
S.B. - During this interview, the album was recently released in Europe and in Brazil people have been looking for us to acquire the album and the reception has been excellent.
C.N. - Does the band plan to do a tour to present the new album or are there already some dates scheduled for you to present the album live? What are your plans for playing live?
S.B. - Yes, we intend to play, and if possible, do a tour soon and of course always balancing our lives with our bands. One thing cannot get in the way of the other. We want to play and move forward.
C.N. - Before finishing this interview, I would like to ask you what your goals are as a band for the future?
S.B. - Our assessment is very positive. Murder Records is serious and does an incredible job of promoting their work, in addition to the quality of the material released being top-notch and of indisputable quality. We feel very honored with this beautiful partnership that will still bear excellent fruits.
C.N. - How do you evaluate the work done by Murder Records to promote, release and distribute your new album? How did a Heavy Black Metal band manage to capture the interest of a label that works mainly with Noise Grind and rotten Death Metal? Are you happy with the work done and do you feel good about being part of the Murder Records roster? What has this experience been like for you? Would you like to talk a little more about it?
S.B. - Our evaluation is very positive. Murder Records is serious and does an incredible job of promoting your album, in addition to the quality of the material released being top-notch and of undeniable quality. We feel very honored with this beautiful partnership that will still bear excellent fruits.
C.N. - Before finishing this interview I would like to ask you what are your goals as a band for the future?
S.B. - Shows, tour, recording, promotion and of course lots of fun, why not...hahaha
C.N. - I would like to thank you for taking the time to record this interview and now I would like to leave this space free and open for you to say anything that you think is relevant and that has not been said yet. This space is yours to thank or tell whoever you want to fuck off.
S.B. - Once again I would like to thank Danihell from Murder Records, Hellstore Europe, Helldprod and everyone involved for this great release. We are very excited. Thank you all for your support. Hugs from Brazil.
