Act of Impalement is a 3 piece death metal outfit from Nashville, TN originally formed in 2012.
The band was revitalized in 2022 with guitarist Ethan Rock's longtime collaborators Aaron Hortman and Jerry Garner, adding much darker and more aggressive elements to the sound. Though still drawing from the likes of Autopsy, Cianide, and Incantation, this third offering adds more inspiration from black/death juggernauts such as Archgoat and Possession.
While lyrics include historical themes throughout, Profane Altar delves deeper than previous releases into occultic ritual violence with intensified vitriol towards bearers of the cross.
